School Assessment
What are at least two strengths and two weaknesses of your school? Describe each strength and
weakness based on your observation/experience as well as your results from the School
Assessment Tool.
After reviewing the assessment results and receiving a C for the overall grade, two
weaknesses of Corona del Sol would be the lack of interaction between the school and parents
regarding active/healthy choices and the importance of incorporating this into the curriculum.
One of the strengths the school has is how interactive they are with the students and the
implementation of physical activity throughout the day and after school. It is equally important if
not more to communicate with the parents and create a plan to help the students maintain the

necessary nutrition needed at home as well. Students may be eating healthy and participating in
physical activities at school but can select unhealthy choices when there is no supervision. Not
only is it crucial for parents and the school to be on the same page but for parents to also
participate in healthy lifestyle choices; parents should be advocates and participate in positive
choices in order for their children to do so as well.
Students having the opportunity to participate in after school sports organizations is a
great way to promote physical health and is one of the strengths the school has. There is a lot of
sports involvement throughout the grade levels but what would take this involvement to the next
level would be to apply it into the school curriculum. Providing students with the opportunity to
learn in depth about nutrition and the importance of being physically fit would create a greater
understanding in the students and staff.
What are at least two ways to improve the policies in place at your school? Explain detailed
information for each way and what you expect from each way. What are at least two ways that
you can you use this information to engage administration, teachers, parents, students and the
community in promoting more healthful behaviors? Include a specific description for how to use
the results from the School Assessment Tool as well as your ideas for improvement.
Parent communication and involvement would be a matter of improvement in this school.
I believe it is important to listen and incorporate parent opinions into this significant topic. Using
the schools/parents visions and ideas, how can we create classes that revolve around health?
What is essential for the students to learn and apply in their everyday lives? It would be
beneficial to create a health fair that involves students, parents, and staff and present information
regarding this topic. After attending the fair, present everyone with a contract that obliges them
to become advocates of positive lifestyle choices. Hopefully, this will help create accountability
for healthy decisions among everyone in the school.
