PRODUCT AND PURPOSE PARER

During this semester, I will be working with my mentor, Mrs. Valerie Gray, to
understand the details about nursing and what it means to take on the job. This
paper is meant to address why I chose to study nursing, research an illness, my
goals of my project, how I could prepare for the presentation, and my product ideas.
After researching many different careers and asking myself, Would I be the
best fit for this job? and Could I see myself working as a nurse? I decided to test
these questions out through ISM. The mentorship so far has been extremely eye
opening because of its basis on service work. My mentor and I have been working
together to find optimal project topics and what I could do to research and collect
data. I first came across H.I.E. when a baby girl arrived into the NICU and didnt
have any brain activity other than her brain stem. She was pale and didnt have any
muscle tone. She was then diagnosed with H.I.E., after her parents shared the
information on her drawn out birth. This patient really touched me, so I found
information on this condition which lead to many gruesome stories about babies
without regular lives.
Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy causes children to lose brain usage since
the brain starts to die off and the patient only has nervous system responses. I hope
that through my research I get a better understanding of H.I.E. and can help others
understand as well. I also want to raise awareness to help find better cures or
precautions so this illness can be less common.
The best way to prepare for my presentation on this project topic would
combine book research, internet research, clinical studies, patient examples, and
interviews with nurses and doctors
