An unknown black male attempted to use $500 in counterfeit $50 bills at a Safeway store in Warrenton, Virginia on September 30, 2015. He was described as a thin black male wearing a camouflage ball cap, jeans, a black and gray jacket, and glasses. He was later seen in the store with another black male, described as wearing jeans and a dark gray long sleeve shirt, and they left the store without paying for several bottles of champagne in a shopping cart. Both males had also attempted to use counterfeit $50 bills earlier that day at a Chipotle restaurant. The Warrenton Police Department is investigating and asks anyone with information about the crimes or suspects to contact Detective B

On Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at approximately 1230 hours an unknown black male attempted to purchase a prepaid gift card with $500 in counterfeit $50 bills from Safeway located at 189 W. Lee Highway, Warrenton, Virginia. When the cashier noticed that something was different about the bills the suspect said he changed his mind and wanted to pay with a bank card instead. When the cashier handed the bills back to the male, he left the store. The suspect was described as a thin black male wearing a camouflage ball cap, jeans, a black & gray jacket, and glasses. He was later seen inside the store with another black male, described as wearing jeans and a dark gray long sleeve shirt, and the two walked out with several bottles of champagne in a shopping cart without paying for them. Both males were in Chipotle located at 251 W. Lee Highway, Suite 243, Warrenton, Virginia, earlier that day attempting to pass more counterfeit $50 bills. There is an investigation ongoing into all these crimes. Similar attempts to pass counterfeit bills in the past have led to an arrest being made due to the vigilance and assistance of business owners. Please be vigilant and immediately call the police if you encounter anyone trying to pass currency that you believe to be counterfeit. If the suspect(s) leave prior to police arrival, pay particular attention to the direction of travel and tags displayed on any vehicles they may enter, as well as any other individuals they may be with.
