My Career

What is my career?
Internist, General
An internists is a type of doctor that
applies knowledge and scientific expertise
to help with adults. They normally treat
adults and can do from health to complex
illness. They do not do surgery and just
specialize in the internal body.

Duties
Diagnose internal
problems and
diseases
Give non-surgical
treatment

Provide care for


adults
Able to handle
patients in a
professional
manner

Work Environment
Some work in a Hospital and others have
their own practice.
Their work environment is usually pleasant.
The job is indoors, and usually take place in a
well lighted exam room.
Hours usually exceed 60 hrs. and can be
stressful.

Education Requirements

Doctoral degree and post-doctoral training


A co-op program is recommended and sometimes required
Courses recommended for high school students are:

Foundations of Health Science

Intro to Pharmacy

Therapeutics
Sports Medicine

Health Science Internship

Advanced Health Seminar

Salary
$167,270 yearly
$80.42 hourly

Job Outlook
Outlook for an internist is very good
Jobs will grow at least 14% from now till
late 2016
