Brown, LeMay, Bursten, Chemistry textbook, 7th edition. Chemical Equilibrium Chapter 15, page 567.
15.9: The equilibrium constant for the reaction, 2NO(g) N2(g)+ O2(g) , is Kc = 2.4 x 103 at 2000C.
a. Calculate Kc for N2(g)+ O2(g) 2NO(g) .

b. At this temperature, does the equilibrium favor NO, or does it favor N2 and O2?

15.13: Gaseous hydrogen iodide is placed in a closed container at 425C, where it partially decomposes to
hydrogen and iodine: 2HI(g) H2(g)+ I2(g) . At equilibrium it is found that [HI] = 3.53 x 103 M; [H2]= 4.79 x
104 M; and [I2]= 4.79 x 104 M. What is the value of Kc at this temperature?

15.21: A mixture of 0.1000 mol of CO2, 0.05000 mol of H2, and 0.1000 of of H2O is placed in a 1.000L vessel.
The following equilibrium is established: CO2(g) + H2(g) CO(g)+ H2O(g) . At equilibrium [CO2] = 0.0954 M.
a. Calculate the equilibrium concentrations of H2, CO and H2O.

b. Calculate Kc for the reaction.

15.25: At 100C the equilibrium constant for the reaction, COCl2(g) CO(g) + Cl2(g), has the value of K = 2.19
x1010. Are the following mixtures of COCl2, CO, and Cl2 at equilibrium? If not, indicate the direction that the
reaction must proceed to achieve equilibrium.
a. [COCl2] = 5.00 x 102 M, [CO] = 3.31 x 106 M, [Cl2] = 3.31 x 106 M

b. [COCl2] = 3.50 x 103 M, [CO] = 1.11 x 105 M, [Cl2] = 3.25 x 106 M

c. [COCl2] = 1.45 M, [CO] = [Cl2] = 1.56 x 106 M

15.51: For the equilibrium, 2IBr(g) I2(g) + Br2(g), Kc = 8.5 x 103 at 150C. If 0.040 mol of IBr is placed in a 1.0 L
container, what is the concentration of this substance after equilibrium is reached?
