Channel Broadening and Improvement Project

Location: Kaohsiung, Taiwan
Application: Channel Slope Protection

Problem
The purpose was to broaden and improve the channel, so that current does not overflow and reduce the
chances of flood. In addition, the application of close-to-nature method relatively reduced the
canalization by people which damages the existing biology.

Solution

The bottom of design was based on RC foundation. The geoformer (ACEFormer ) was placed on the
surface to protect the slope and prevent it from erosion. Different from traditional channel protection
engineering using mortar concrete, geoformer provide a green space and reduce environmental impact.
Additionally, bikeway was installed which developed communitys recreation zone.
The drainage system was significantly improved, the people survived the floods. Bike lanes have been
added for leisure, beauty and safety.
