rt just seems like a few dabs of paint on a canvas. Art is about expressing yourself with something more
beautiful than letters; to express what I see in a way that only I can see; to reveal to others my perspective
of beauty. Art is expressing beauty that deserves more than just a page of words.
In my life, art functions as a method for me to voice my ideas while calm me down. I like to draw things as I see
them; to show people the beauty of the world, untouched. I enjoy drawing starry night skies and picturesque streets,
usually of Europe. Instead of creating projects for practical use, I create them as forms of art. From working with
threads, sewing, knitting, and weaving to working with glass to make glass beads and wind chimes, I enjoy the new
experiences. The art of spinning clay to make pots is especially soothing: for the smoothness of the revolving clay
and the whirl of the machine sounds reassuring. Meanwhile, sculpting offers a different sensation. The rhythmic
thud of chipping away bits of rocks and the puffs of powdered rock floating in the air help me focus on the task at
hand. This process allows me to shape my anger and frustration into beauty.
I grew interests in art when I was younger. Even in Kindergarten, I drew shapeless scribbles, and brought them
home with a proud smile on my face. My shapeless scribbles slowly transformed into wobbly figures that progressed
into awkward portraits. Then, as I grew older, my drawings began to take shape and grew to be more detailed and
sophisticated. Now, I create landscapes with precision and skills I didnt have years ago. More recently, I particularly
love painting. While I enjoy watercolor painting and ancient Korean style painting, I particularly love to paint with
oil medium. One of the reasons I am infatuated with watercoloring is that I enjoy the challenge of having to select
the right range of colors to create the perfect depiction; for one slightly color change can severely impact the final
image. In a similar way, ancient forms of Asian art reveals a high level of detail in the midst of simplicity. After
dipping the soft brush into the ink, drawing a few elegant swishes can make a flower bloom to life on the paper.
Thats what art really is, isnt it? Trying to transfer the beauty of life onto one scene so we might capture the warm
breeze or the glint of the cool brook. So everyone can see the timeless beauty, today, tomorrow, and forever.
