First day of Fall!

Picture Day!

We learned a LOT!

Quotation of the Week

Reading: Students were introduced to, and

practiced, the final Daily 5 rotation listen to
reading. Students are now prepared to begin
the Daily 5 routine on a consistent day-to-day
basis. They will rotate from reading to self for
20 minutes, to work on writing, to word work,
to listen to reading, to guided reading with Mrs.
Gannon each day.

A persons a person, no matter

how small.

Writing: Students have begun the writing

workshop, and are writing stories of their
choice. They have been taught various strategies to help them think of ideas, spell words,
and build writing stamina.
Math: Students have completed a variety of
activities allowing them to place objects in order and identify their ordinal numbers first
through twentieth. They also played a matching
game to help them learn and recognize the
written words of ordinal numbers.
Social Studies: Students have begun our next
unit on geography. Theyve learned the parts of
a map, labeled a map, seen what Google Maps
and Google Earth shows, and constructed their
own maps of their bedroom or classroom.
Tiger Time: Mrs. Gannon has been administering the Developmental Reading Assessment
(DRA) test to students to determine their current reading levels.

Looking Ahead

their stories and stapling all papers together in book form. They will explore
additional types of writing like list making and writing letters.
Math: Students will begin learning
about place value.
Social Studies: Students will be identifying and labeling large land masses and
bodies of water.

Students record their findings and answer

supplemental questions about ordinal numbers.
