This is a weekly activity for you to carry out individually or in groups as instructed. The
activities should be completed before the next class.

There are two tasks for you to complete individually before your next class.
1. Asking for and giving opinions
In our daily interactions with others, it is common for us to ask for and give opinions.
a. What are the appropriate language expressions to use when you ask for and
give opinions?
The apporiate language expressions to use when I ask for :
1 Do you think that is right?
2 What do you think of this example?
3 What do you think about this point?
4 What is your opinion?
5 What are your views on this point?
6 Do you agree?

The apporiate language expressions to use when I give opinions :


1 To my mind this ones better.
2 In my opinion, this whould be better.
3 Personally, I think that would be better.
4 I believe this would be a good point.
5 Generally speaking, I think that Alis point is better.

b. Why is it important to use these expressions in a conversation or discussion?


Using these expressions in a conversation or discussion is important because by
using these expressions we could interact in the conversation with a polite ways
by having the right manner. Besides that, by using these expressions we actually
point out emphatically that we want to give opinions or asking for something so
that people could pay attention on our talks. Furthermore, with the help of
expressions in a conversation or discussion people can easily have a general
idea that what are we trying to speak out.

2. Asking for and giving clarifications


In our daily interactions with others, it is common for us to ask for and give
clarifications.
a. What are the appropriate language expressions to use when you ask for and
give clarifications?
The appropriate language expressions to use when I ask for clarifications :
1 Could you say that again, please?
2 Could you repeat please?
3 Could you clarify that, please?
4 Would you elaborate on that point, please?
5 Could you explain what you mean by...?
6 Could you give us an example?
7 Could you put it differently, please?
8 Could you be more specific, please?
9 Is that the same as?

1 Let me explain to you that
2 Let me explain that in more detail
3 In other words
4 Sorry let me explain
5 To say this differently
6 Let me put it in another way..
b. Why is it important to use these expressions in a conversation or discussion?
