Lake Hillier, WA.

Lake Hillier, also referred to as Pink Lake is
located on Middle Island off the south coast of
Western Australia. The island is the largest of
150 islands in the Recherche Archipelago group
in WA.
The lake is about 600 metres (2000 feet) in
length and about 250 metres (820 feet) in
width. Surrounded by a strip of sand dunes and
dense woodland the lake is particularly notable
for its pink colour. The source of the colour is
considered to be due to the presence of the
organism Dunaliella salina, a type of halophile
green micro-algae generally found in sea salt
fields. The colour in the lake is not temporary
and will maintain its pink tone even when taken
in a container out of the lake. The lake is safe to
swim in despite the high salt content levels
however there are very few ways to access Lake
Hillier.
For the best experience of the lake it is best to
be seen from the air.
Helicopter tours depart regularly through Esperance Helitours from James Street Groyne Helipad.

Australia

Location

Australia is an Oceanian country comprising the mainland of the Australian continent, the island of Tasmania,
and numerous smaller islands. It is the worlds sixthlargest country by total area. Neighboring countries include Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and East Timor to
the north; the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu to the north
-east; and New Zealand to the south-east. For at least
40,000 years before the first British settlement in the late
18th century, Australia was inhabited by indigenous Australians, also known as Aborigines. After the European
discovery of the continent by Dutch explorers in 1606,
Australia's eastern half was claimed by Great Britain in
1770. Today the country is famously recognised for its
wildlife, climate, slang, vegemite and great beaches.

Western Australia
Western Australia (abbreviated as WA) is aa Australian state occupying the entire western third of Australia.
It is bounded by the Indian Ocean to the north and west,
the Great Australian Bight and Southern Ocean to the
south, the Northern Territory to the north-east
and South Australia to the south-east. Western Australia
is Australia's largest state with a total land area of
2,529,875 square kilometres, and the second-largest
country subdivision in the world however, a significant
part of it is sparsely populated.
