Collective nouns name


groups of persons or
objects of the same kind,
considered as a single unit.

A collective noun is usually singular, but when the reference is to


the individual members of the group rather than the group as a
whole it is used as a plural noun.

E.g.: The committee have disagreement


on certain points.
The committee has taken a
decision.

A few collective nouns such as cattle, vermin,


poultry and gentry are always treated as plurals.
