L fmevised —[10-1-77 By-Pass Valve Foot Pedal FIG 1 INTRODUCTION ‘The AMP Foot Pump Power Unit is designed to accept crimping heads Part Nos. 69051, 69060, 69065, 69066, 69069, 69097 & 69099 Full instructions for fitting and crimpin are given on AMP Instruction Sheets F packaged with crimping heads and crimping dies. Crimping Head Remove Plastic NOTE: Caps Before using AMP Foot Pump Power Unit fill oil reservoir. Use oil shipped with foot| pump and fill to bottom of the filler plug orifice. The reservoir contains approx- imately 2 quarts of oi]. When adding oil, use Shell Tellus 27. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Note: Foot Pump should only be used in horizontal position. (a) Remove Cap from end of Hose. Pump Foot Pedal slowly until oil appears at end of Hose. (b) Attach Crimping Head to Hose as shown in Fig. 2. See also Instruction Sheet packaged with Crimping Head. (ce) Place Terminal or Splice in Dies. See Instruction Sheet packaged with Dies. (a) Lift up Reset Pedal and then push it down. (e) Pump Foot Pedal until Ram in Crimping Head advances and holds Terminal or Splice Barrel. Do not deform. (f) Insert stripped wire (for wire stripping length refer to Instruction Sheets packaged with Dies). (g) Pump Foot Pedal until internal by-pass Valve opens and Ram in Crimping Head returns to bottom position, Open Latch on Crimping Head and remove crimped Terminal or Splice. Before next crimp is made, push Reset Pedal down then follow steps (e), (f) and (g) above. 3. MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS 3.1 TO BLEED AIR - If air gets into the system (Foot Pedal feels ‘spongy’ when pumped) follow this procedure: (a) Lift Reset Pedal (this will release any pressure in the system). Remove Crimping Head. (b) (e) (a) IS 1016 GB Pump Foot Pedal until oil appears at end of hose. Replace Crimping Head. Repeat procedure until air is removed from system. Check oil supply after bleeding system fill as necessary. 3.2 TO RESET PRESSURE RELEASE VALVE The Pressure Release Valve is set to open at 8000-8500 P.S.I. This valve should be checked once a month using the following procedure: (a) (b) (e) (a) (e) @) (es) ¢h) a) @ s), qQ) Lift Reset Pedal then remove Crimping Head. Pump Foot Pedal until oil appears at end of Hose. Attach Pressure Gauge Adaptor to end of Hose. Attach Pressure Gauge Snubber to Adaptor. Attach a 10.000 P.S.I. Pressure Gauge ‘to Snubber. Pump Foot Pedal. If Pump does not ‘Kick Off! between 8000-8500 P.S.1. lift Reset Pedal to release pressure. Remove Pressure Release Valve Cap Plug and adjust Collar Adjusting Screw - See Fig.” 1 (Screw in to increase pressure) Replace Pressure Release Valve Cap Plug. Lift Reset Pedal and then push down. Pump Foot Pedal and check pressure again. Repeat steps (g) to (k) until correct pressure is obtained. Lords (a) (b) (e) (a) Ce) (f) IS 1016 GB TO ADJUST BY-PASS VALVE If pressure does not drop after continued pumping, the By-Pass Valve must he adjusted as follows: Remove By-Pass Yalve Cap Nut. Remove Spring and Cone Point valve. Measure Spring free length (This should be between 1,3/16" and 1,5/16" long, approx. 1" Dia. and made of 037" ~ 1038" Dia. Spring Steel) If Spring has become compressed to a length shorter than 1 3/16" a new spring should be fitted. (If however a new spring is not readily available, the old spring can be stretched to above 1 5/16" and used as a temporary measure until a new Spring can be obtained). Replace Valve, Spring and Cap Nut Try Foot Pump and note reaction. In the event of ofl leakage ‘from under cap plugs etc. new copper washers should be fitted Git may be advisable to heat the copper washer to cherry red and quench in water to fully anneal them thus ensuring that they seal effectively) Take care to avoid damaging seating face of cap plugs.
