If You Were a Fraction by Trisha Speed Shaskan and illustrated by Francesca Carabelli

Bibliographic Information
Shaskan, T., & Carabelli, F. (2009). If you were a fraction. Minneapolis, Minn.: Picture Window
Books.
Plot
This is a super cute book which about what a fraction is. It goes over all the different
types of fraction names. Also includes a really fun pizza activity to teach a quick lesson on this
as well.
Setting

The setting of the book is in many different places; a house, outside, a circus, in a
classroom, and a kitchen
Theme
There is no really theme to this book instead it simply teaches a fact about math.
Characters
There are not really any well-defined characters in the book but the story is told with
people, kangaroos, zebras, leopards, peacocks, walruses, mice, hippos, turtles, birds, tigers and
pigs.
Style
The style of the book is written very diversely with great variation of the sentence
structure that it uses for examples of the fractions.
Point of View
The book is written from a somewhat objective view point of an all knowing narrator.
Reflections
I really loved this book that I found at the local library. It is part of a math lesson series to
make learning some of the tougher rules of math a little bit more fun for the students.
