Example 1
In a reaction, silver nitrate decomposed on heating producing silver metal, nitrogen dioxide and
oxygen. Given that 42.5g of silver nitrate completely decomposed when heated in an
experiment.

2( AgN O 3 ) 2 Ag+2 N O 2 +O 2
Calculate
(a) the mass in grams of the silver metal formed;
(b) the volume of oxygen gas formed at r.t.p.

Solution
1. Identify Input 42.5g of Silver Nitrate
2. Identify Output (a) mass of silver and (b) Volume of oxygen
3. Calculate Input Mole

4. *Compared Mole Ratio: 0.25 Mole represents 2 Units
Since (a) Silver has also 2 units 0.25 Mole and (Output Mole)
