What I like about acolyte is you

get to set the fire and it starts the
church service.
Also it makes me feel like I am doing something special just for God.

And we should thank her whenever

we see her.

Then at 6:00 we have bells, our

teacher is Mrs. Kalen and she is
Awesome! I love playing bells!
After church once every month we
have Kids for Christ led by Maranda Thompson, our youth director.
She is Awesome too! We get to do
fun things that help the church
like the day we planted flowers.
Another day we watched GODS
NOT DEAD and we learned about
GOD. That is what kind of stuff
we do in Kids for Christ.
THATS WHY I LOVE
JUMC

ADOPT A COLLEGE STUDENT

College can be very stressful, and being
away from home and people who love us
makes this already trying time worse. It is
important that we surround our students
with love as family and friends and as a
church community. This is an easy commitment, requiring only that you send a card or
small gift box a few times a year. Take it
from a recent adoption graduate, it can
mean more than the world on a rough day
during finals or a time when essays abound!

If you are
interested,
please call
me or Lisa
Camp at
336-9829402.
Blessings,
Courtney

SHARING CENTER FUNDRAISER

The Hotel Tavern Restaurant in West Jefferson invites you to join them for Sunday Brunch. Bring your church
bulletin and they will donate 10% of your total bill to the Ashe County Sharing Center. The Sharing Center provides free clothing and food for people in need.

UNITED METHODIST MEN FUNDRAISER

The United Methodist Men are selling peanuts for $5 to
raise money for local missions. The Jefferson United
Methodist Men have undertaken two projects as their
mission work in Ashe County. One of these projects
which has been completed was replacing some lap exterior siding on a home near Lansing.
The second project which is currently underway is to

revitalize a home located in Fleetwood where a disabled

mother and daughter have been displaced. Monies for
these projects was raised by the Brunswick stew sale last
fall and the continued sales of cheese straws and peanuts. As additional monies are obtained additional
work will be completed. Contact Gaylord Snyder 336982-8861 to purchase peanuts.

FOOD PANTRY TIN CAN OFFERING SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11TH

Our children will pass the tin cans to collect money for
Jefferson's Food Pantry during the worship service on
Sunday, October 11th. Our usual food delivery from
Second Harvest food pantry is 15 boxes. They have
reduced the amount of food that they will be shipping
us to 10 boxes for an undetermined amount of time.
This means that we will be making up the difference by

purchasing food ourselves at

the grocery store prices instead
of discounted rates. Any donation you wish to make will be
helpful.

Pastor Karen Miller will be on vacation October 5-12. In her

absence, the Reverend Margaret Wannemacher will be covering
pastoral emergencies. She is the pastor at the Warrensville
Charge. Pastoral emergencies include hospitalizations, death,
and other pastoral care needs.
To contact Margaret Wannemecher, please call 828-446-5556.
The cell phone for Pastor Karen is 704-903-2997.

Annual Fundraiser for the

Ashe Pregnancy Care Center

October 3rd at 9:30 AM

The walk will start at Fletcher Memorial Baptist Church
And take the short walk to the Pregnancy Center.
If you would like more information on the Walk for Life,
call Roger Newton, APCC Director at 846-4100 or 877-0659.
Each year the Ashe Pregnancy Care Center asks for sponsors who can give at least $100 for the Walk for Life,
or collect money from friends and family to bring to the walk. Youth groups, mission groups, small groups and
other groups can pool their money together to bring an offering.
There will be good singing, lots of door prizes and they will recognize who brings the most money in and which
group is the largest. Start recruiting!

Choosing the Best

The Ashe Pregnancy Care Center has begun a new program within the schools, Choosing the Best, which is an
abstinence-based sex education program for use in the schools and has been used effectively in many of the surrounding counties. They are purchasing the starter kits and books for sixth grade and above as resources are
found. Each book is $5 and there are teacher videos and resources. Choosing the Best is not only an abstinence-based sex education tool, but helps young people to make the best choices in all of life whether relationships, drugs, crime or a multitude of decisions they will have to make.
Thank you for your support, prayers and involvement in Ashe Pregnancy Care Center.

The Legacy Fund

A Permanent Endowment to Fund the Future of
Jefferson United Methodist Church

WHAT IS THE LEGACY FUND?

The Legacy Fund, created and owned by JUMC, is an endowment account separate and apart from the annual operating funds, the building fund or any other financial resources that the church has. Contributions made to the Legacy
Fund today and in the years to come will be used to meet special needs that the church may have. It is a timeless way
by which we can participate in sustaining and nurturing JUMC.

Gifts and Bequests will remain in the fund and the earnings will provide an annual income for the church forever.
The primary purpose of The Legacy Fund is to provide for the maintenance, repair, improvement, and addition
to church assets
Monies will be invested for growth and income, a portion of which will be returned to the church each year.

GUIDELINES

The Permanent Endowment and Planned Giving Committee, appointed by the Charge Conference, will oversee
the fund.
The Board of Trustees will determine the needs which will be met using the earnings of the fund, such as facilities
improvements, significant purchases, or other items outside the annual operating budget.
No disbursement will be made until the fund reaches $100,000.
The maximum amount of disbursement is 3% of the balance.
Only one disbursement will be taken in any calendar year.
Funds will be invested for long term growth potential with minimal expense overhead.

LIVING LEGACY GIFTS

Gifts can be large or small and given at any time. Gifts to The Legacy Fund provide a special way to remember, recognize and celebrate our loved ones. Your gifts will be acknowledged in the church bulletin and newsletter unless
you prefer to give anonymously.
PLANNED GIVING
In addition to special remembrances or other gifts, you can also make a planned gift to The Legacy Fund by including
it in your estate plans.

A bequest is the act of giving property by will. Property can be cash or other designated assets, such as land, investments, or personal property. Legal assistance is available should you choose to include the church in your will. Contact the pastor for more information
DESIGNATE THE CHURCH AS A BENEFICIARY
Life Insurance, Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs), and annuities transfer assets at your death outside of a wall.
By designating a beneficiary or beneficiaries, the assets avoid probate and go directly to your designee. A phone call
to your insurance agent or retirement account broker/custodian and a signed beneficiary change form allows your to
designate your church as a primary or partial beneficiary.

Contact the church if you would like to know how to contribute.

MATERNITY LEAVE INFORMATION

Ashley Church, our Administrative Assistant, will be on maternity leave until about October 14. Alex and Ashley
and their son Sawyer added Jackson Dean Church to their family.
