DEAN NAMES TRANSITION TEAM

Justice A.A. Birch at the helm

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Mayor-elect Karl Dean today announced that Justice A.A. Birch will
lead his transition team in making plans for his administration, which will take office on Sept.
21.

"I am grateful that Justice A.A. Birch agreed to chair my transition team and will help me
establish a mayor's office that can hit the ground running later this month," Dean said. "There are
only nine days until I take the oath of office, and I will be relying on his wisdom, and the
guidance of his team to make this transition a smooth one."

Other members of the team include Lewis Lavine, executive director of the Center for Nonprofit
Management and a former chief of staff to then-Gov. Lamar Alexander; Jennifer Gilligan Cole, a
management consultant and former director of Hands On Nashville; David Fox, a partner in the
public relations firm McNeely, Pigott and Fox; Tom Lee, a Dean campaign advisor and attorney
at Waller, Lansden Dortch and Davis; Pam Martin, Nashville businesswoman and Dean
campaign co-chair; and Patrick Willard, communications director for AARP Tennessee and a
former staffer in the Purcell administration.

"Today we met with Mayor Purcell and began the process of transitioning to the new
administration. I appreciate the mayor and his staff working with us so that we can enjoy a
seamless changeover," Dean said.

"Our plans are to have the mayor's office in place when I take office on Sept. 21, but some
appointments will continue to be made in the weeks that follow. I want to put together the best
possible team to join me in leading Nashville forward in the years ahead and that means picking
the best possible new people for the two key positions that must be approved by the Metro
Council—the finance director and legal director for the city," Dean said.

The transition team will operate separate from the campaign staff, Dean said. It will look into
appointments and other responsibilities the new mayor will face upon assuming office. Dean
plans to make additional announcements about his administration and advisors next week prior
to the inauguration.
