The purpose of the World Congress of

Chiropractic Students is to advance and
unite the global chiropractic profession
through
inspiration,
integrity,
and
leadership. This important statement was
ratified unanimously in 2010 by the member
schools that make up the WCCS. I have
always been very proud of this purpose
statement, but for my first 3 years in the
WCCS I was having a lot of trouble
explaining to people HOW we achieve this
purpose. I think many of our delegates have
a little trouble explaining how the WCCS
does this, and as a result it can be difficult
for other organizations to understand what
we do and what our intentions are. I hope
my thoughts below will help you better
understand, and better communicate, just
how valuable the WCCS can be.

Upcoming events

When we students look at chiropractic, we

see many professional organizations around
the world leading the charge to advance our
profession, increasing access to chiropractic
care for more and more people around the
world every year, and we couldnt be happier
about it! There are many incredible
chiropractic leaders in these organizations
who are more than happy to advise and even
mentor students whenever we may need it.
Many of our members are already involved
with some of these organizations, and many
more plan on being involved with these
organizations in the future.

Pages 1

Unfortunately we also see how much fear

and disrespect some people can harbor for
others in our profession. Misunderstandings
and disagreements are impeding the growth
and potential of chiropractic, and I believe
this is where the WCCS can play a part to
h
help
our profession advance. The WCCS, as
a
student
organization, has
high
membership turnover and a low institutional
memory; we are not in a position to create
policy, lobby governments, or challenge
healthcare systems. We have no desire to
accredit schools,
scho
regulate licenses, or
interfere with administrations. Instead, the
WCCS provides a place for some of the most
passionate chiropractic student leaders from
around the world to come together and to
begin to understand each other.
As our understanding of each other grows,
relationships begin to form. Students from
24 schools on 6 different continents all begin
to understand why their fellow chiropractors
make the decisions that they do, what their
desires are for the chiropractic profession,
and what challenges
ch
we face in our regions.
We exchange ideas, challenge each other,
and support each other.
The WCCS has no desire to take any side in
any philosophical disagreements, in fact the
truth is closer to the opposite. When we
come together we seek to identify
iden
those

issues in chiropractic that we can agree on,
we use those issues as a foundation, as a
common ground, from which to begin
working together. By building these
relationships, working together and
developing respect for each other, we will be
better prepared
prepare when the time comes for us
to face the issues that arent so easily agreed
upon.
Our purpose and vision remain unchanged,
our membership is committed to advancing
the global chiropractic profession. Together.
The diversity of the
WCCS is not a threat,
and it is not a
weakness, it is in fact
one of our greatest
strengths.

This proverb cannot be truer for the African

Americas Regional Event

Report

The WCCS Americas Regional Event has

been organized by the UNEVT Chapter and
th
it started at 8:00 am of Friday the 24 of
September. Students from UNEVT, UNEVE,
UV, LIFE WEST, LIFE U and SHERMAN
attended for a total amount of 172
delegates.
Some
amazing
speakers
including Dr. Jaime Pinillos, Dr. Ian DavisDavis
Tremayne and Dr. Eddy Diaz were invited to
share their experiences and to motivate
students about our wonderful profession.
They entertained the audience with very
different subjects around the three
chiropractic pillars: art, science and
philosophy. A special segment was arranged
to learn about how Chiropractic began and
has evolved throughout Mexico and the
influence of WCCS during this process.

The World Congress of Chiropractic

th
Fremantle, Perth on the 11 -13
of
September. The weekend kicked off with
registration at the Little Creatures Brewery
on Friday night, overlooking the ocean and a
picturesque Western Australian sunset.
Keynote speaker Dr. Braden Keil gave a talk
on pediatrics, followed by dinner, drinks and
a meet and greet. There were 78 delegates
in attendance over the weekend, including
students from Murdoch, RMIT, Macquarie
and new graduates.

This was a fantastic way to solidify

friendships, network with mentors and see
the sites of Perth. Four hours of dancing,
canaps, drinks and festivities plastered
smiles on the faces of all and the
opportunity to interact with the speakers
was invaluable. The Chiropractors that
attended the weekend did so at their own
cost, some flying in from interstate and
others traveling hours to make the event. As
convener, I would like

to thank all of the
speakers for giving up their time, for their
support prior to and during the event and for

Chiropractic
Humanitarian Assistance
Program (CHAP) Report
The CHAP committee has been hard at work
this year, strengthening ties with external
organizations as well as continuing to
implement community service projects at all
regional events. These projects were first
trialed at regional events last year and
proved to be successful. Despite time and
logistical hurdles, it was great to see how
conveners managed to incorporate a
community based activity on top of the
already busy weekends.
A huge amount of effort was put into the
Africas regional event as well as the massive
contribution they collectively made to their
community service project. Books were
collected by students and donated to the

Durban Childrens Home, where delegates

also offered their time to get to know the
children. The chapter even managed to
fundraise enough money to sponsor a childs
education for a whole year. It is truly
inspiring to see students emphasizing the
importance of community service, which
thereby empowers
empowe everyone that they come
in contact with.
At the WESTPACs regional event, a beach
cleanup had been planned, however due to
last minute cancellations and wild weather,
the proposed activity was unable to go
ahead. Instead, awareness was brought to
Worl Spine Care and Into the World, and
World
money fundraised to support both
organizations.
CHAP members have been assisting Mario
(convener of the European regional event),
however due to the countrys legalities, its
proving difficult to carry out their planned
plann

community based activity.

World Spine Care and Into the World are two
non-for--profit organizations that strive to
provide the highest form of spinal health
care to communities around the globe. This
is achieved through the volunteer work of a
multidisciplinary
sciplinary
team
of
health
professionals, provide holistic and evidence
based care. The CHAP committee has been
bringing awareness to these organizations
through presentations at colleges as well as
distributing material at regional events. We
believe that the WCCS community provides
a unique platform for
worldwide exposure of
both organizations, as we
are the next generation
of chiropractors.

38th AGM of the WCCS:

WCCS 22nd-28th April 2016, Paris

I don't know how life's going on for you but here, the 38th AGM team members are busting themselves in order to make this congress
unforgettable. We found a nice hotel close to Paris which seems build for us : cosy conference space, a view of the whole capital from the 15th
1
floor where we will have our welcoming ceremony and even a night club within 5 minutes of walking distance...
Our main concern right now is to find out how we will entertain you guys during the day off, our city has so much to offer ! We could bus, bike,
bi
walk our way between those monuments and parks
parks and art work but the whole team seems to think that discover the city from a "pniche"
"p
on "la
seine" is the best...
If you are wondering about speakers, I would tell you that we found many that are as thrilled as we are about this chance to Learn,
Learn Give and Link.
They are all different in practice or philosophy but they all want to share
s
with
ith us. Mathieu Spencer for example
exa
will explain how he managed to
bring together his two passions, music and chiropractic in building his practice. He is now treating great musicians and through
thro
that enhances our
lives with his hands and our ears.
We are looking forward to give you more details about our guests and parties. We hope many of you will share this event with us.
