needed about that contact to be imported. White
means all necessary information is provided for
that contact from the address book.

Click the left hand box to select a contact

to be edited. Then select Edit and modify
the data in the boxes below.

The first step when starting a new

project is to make the engine
selection.
Older engines are catalogued in Gas
Engine Rating Pro as Non-current.
This should help you manage your
fleet.

For non-current ratings, you can

narrow the selection by utilizing
the serial number prefix.

For current selections,

begin by choosing the
engine using either
the Performance
Rating Number from a
Technical Performance
Data Sheet or by
inputting individual
parameters.

If the feature code for a

rating or the rating
number on a Caterpillar
Technical Performance
Data Sheet is not known,
select the engine using a
series of dropdown
menus.
You can find a model by
selecting options from
any of the dropdowns.
When a selection is
made, the other drop
down choices are limited
to only those that match
your selections.

The Engine Model field is filtered based on

the Engine Family that was selected. Select
an Engine Model from the dropdown list.

A Warning screen will appear if

you press Next and the value
column is not completely filled
in.

Select the Emission Setting

from the dropdown list.
Once enough information has
been determined to fully
identify a model/rating, the
engine information table is
populated. Select Next.

The Rating Information screen (main

screen) displays full load engine
performance at the standard rated
conditions. Enter the project site
conditions in the Site Rating column.

The Altitude can be changed by

typing in the correct altitude of
the site where the engine will be
operating.

The Air Temperature can be

changed to match the
maximum site temperature
where the engine will be
operating.

The SCAC temperature

(aftercooler) can be changed from
the standard setting using a
dropdown box of SCAC
temperatures.

The site fuel can be selected from a

predefined list of fuels. If the fuel gas
analysis is known, select the Gas
Analysis option from the list and the
program will display another input
screen.

The Fuel Analysis screen is used to enter

the composition of the fuel gas that will be
supplied to the engine and its properties
are calculated. When the necessary fields
are filled in, select Calculate, then Next.

After selecting Next, notice that

the Calculate button on the
main screen is lit. Select
Calculate to have program
calculate engine performance
at specified site conditions.

The Rating Information screen will

now display complete site full load
engine performance at the site
conditions as well as standard rated
conditions.

The Gas Engine Rating Pro

allows users to override default
settings to select other units of
measure and other units for
calculating exhaust emissions
as well as reduced speeds and
loads.

Use the dropdown

menus to change default
output parameters.

At any time during your engine selection,

you may select the Notes button to enter
miscellaneous notes about your project.

The calculate button will be lit whenever

new input information is specified. If any
input has changed, always remember to
calculate again, using the Calculate
button.

Click on Project Information to enter

information pertinent to your project.

The Project Information section

contains project descriptive data
related to the current project,
customers, and who prepared the
project. This will be displayed on site
data outputs.

Select Add/Edit Customer to input a

customer name. Notice that this
window can also be accessed through
the Utilities Menu as previously
mentioned.

When you are finished with

your engine calculations and
have inputted the Project
Information, make sure you
save your work by selecting
File, Save.

Selecting Close when you

have not previously saved
your work will prompt this
warning box.

You can open previously

saved projects using the
File menu and selecting
Open.

When changes are

made to previously
released ratings, you
will get one of two
messages when you
open a saved project
that used a changed
(non- current) rating.
If the change is due to
an error in the data,
you will receive this
message.
You can review the old
data or update to the
new data.

If the change is because an engine is no

longer available (for example the EIS
ignition on the G3500s), you will receive this
message.

Multiple runs allows users to save

multiple models or selections under a
single project name. To select a new
run, save your work and click Runs
then Create New.

Specify New run

name and what
information is to be
copied to the new
run, then click Ok.

After clicking Ok, notice that the Runs

field changes. You can use the Runs
dropdown menu to specify which Run
you wish to view.

You can edit the name of a Run by

clicking Runs then Edit Description.

Specify a new name

for the Run and
select OK.

Click the Tech Data Output option on the

left navigation bar to view all available
technical data.

The Site Tech Data Sheet displays

engine performance data, which
represents the highest possible
continuous operating power at the
user specified site conditions. The
data may also represent the user
specified site speed and power
level when a reduced power or
speed value is entered. You can
print, export to .CSV file, or close
the tech data pages.

Press the Save button

to save technical data
into a folder. The
default setting will save
the document as a .PDF
file.

Press the Print

button to print
technical data. You
must complete
Project Information
in order to print the
Site Tech Data Sheet.

The Standard Tech Data Sheet displays calculated

engine performance data for the standard rated
conditions. This represents published performance
data at 100%, 75%, and 50% load points.

Jacket water pump

curves and auxiliary
water pump curves
plot pump flow rates
vs. external
resistance for
several engine
speeds in the engine
operating range.

If both Sound Pressure

and Sound Power are
available, select the
Sound Type from the
dropdown and specify
distances to regenerate
the report. If only
Sound Pressure is
available, the report is
available based on the
defaults shown.

The Optional Graphs

plot Engine Power vs.
selected Parameters
such as Fuel
Consumption, Inlet
Manifold Pressure,
Ignition Timing, etc. in
the engine operating
range. These curves
are based on the Site
Rating at Maximum Air
to Turbo Temperature.
Move your cursor to any
point on the line to get
an exact reading.

Click a different row

to view other graphs.

Select Report boxes to

designate graphs you want to
include in the printed report.
When printed, the report will
print all checked boxes.

Select the What If tab if you need to

calculate engine performance at speeds or
loads at varying increments. After
calculating, you may export the data to
.CSV File.

You can open the .CSV file in

Excel by opening the
document in the Reports
section of the My
Documents/My Gas Engine
Rating Pro folder.

Select the Drawings tab to view a

2D drawing or 3D model of the
engine model you are working
with. Utilize the toolbar to
perform different functions with
the model. This window also
contains a Downloads button. If
you click this button you will be
able to Download all the related
file formats for the selected
Performance Number drawing.

The Downloads window

contains options to select
certain sheets and file
formats. The files are
downloaded to the default
directory located in My
Documents.

Select 3D Model to view the

engine. (NOTE: 3D models are
only available for 3500 and 3600
engine models). This window also
contains a Downloads button. If
you click this button you will be
able to Download all the related
file formats for the selected
Performance Number drawing.

The Downloads window

contains options to select
certain file formats. The files
are downloaded to the default
directory located in My
Documents.

The reports tab organizes and

consolidates all of your output data into
one report.

Select and deselect checkboxes

to specify what output data
needs to be included in the
report.

You can save any of your Site

Tech Data information to a
.CSV file by clicking on the
Export to .CSV File at any
time.

Use the Reference Material screen to view

Performance Data, Spec Sheets, Reference
Guides, or Product Information. Click on the
plus sign adjacent to the Reference Material
selection to view the available documents.
Then click on the title to open the document.

The Special Rating Request (SRR)

screen is used to document any special
conditions or requirements that
prevent a rating from being analyzed
by the Gas Engine Rating Pro. This
information can then be e-mailed to
Caterpillar for processing. Be sure to
be very specific and detailed when
filling in the Request box.

The Check for GERP Updates option

is available from the Utilities menu
and can be utilized to update the Gas
Engine Rating Pro application.
Check for GERP Updates will
download the latest enhancements
or changes and will guide you
through the setup process.
