BBB: Energy-saving tax credits available

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of
2009 included new and expanded tax credits for home
owners. Qualifying improvements include installing
wind or solar energy systems or a new rwf.

- '~omeowners should keep'in mind that having an
Energy Star seal does not guarantee the product quali-
fies for tax credits," said Bill Moak, BBB Mississippi
resident.
- The following improvements can qualify for a tax
credit for 30 percent of the improvement cost up to
$1,500 total for all improvements:
Widows and doors, including energy efficient sky-
Lights, storm windows, exterior windows, storm doors
and exterior doors;
Roofing and insulation, including metal or asphalt
shingles;
Heating and cooling systems, including energy d-
ficient central A/C units, oil furnaces and gas fur-
naces; apd,
Water heaters, including energy efficient gas, oil,
propane and electric heaters.

ing home improvements:
Always check the company/contractor with the
BBB to get their rating and determine if they are ac-
credited by the BBB.
Get several estimates for projects. Remember you
do not have to use any specific contractors in order to
take advantage of the tax credit.
