Present Perfect
We use thePresent Perfect
Simplemainly to express that an action
is completed or to emphasize the
result.

S+have/has+V

Example:

writing

Present Perfect Continuous


We use thePresent Perfect
Progressiveto emphasize the duration
or continuous course of an action.

S+have/has+been+
Example:

Ive been writing for an hour
--) It means the subject still writing
something

The following verbs are usually only


used in Present Perfect Simple (not
in the progressive form).

state:be, have (for possession only)


Example: Wehave beenon holiday for
two weeks.
senses:feel, hear, see, smell, taste,
touch
Example: Hehas touchedthe painting.
brain work:believe, know, think,
understand
Example: Ihave knownhim for 3 years.
