Professional Service
My professional service is volunteering with the directed journal reading
committee to write quiz questions quarterly on the articles published on the Medical
Dosimetry journal. Each Medical Dosimetry journal issue has 2 sets of directed journal
readings that the American Association of Medical Dosimetrist (AAMD) members can
get continuing education (CE) credits from reading the assigned articles and answering
the quiz questions. A member could get 2.5 CE credits for each article with at least 80%
of questions answered correctly. The sets of questions and quizzes are available on the
AAMD website after each Medical Dosimetry journal is published.
As part of the directed journal reading committee, each volunteer write a few quiz
questions with answers for each selected articles. The questions then get selected and
edited as published quiz questions. In the beginning of this year, all the volunteers in
directed journal reading committee communicated through Podio application where
everyone shared their documents and commented on each volunteers sets of quiz
questions. We enabled to upload, download, and share files within the application.
Starting this winter issue, the committee will begin to use OneHub application instead of
Podio. This application will enable us to integrate and edit the same documents uploaded
onto the website. All volunteers are still able to comment and edit the documents within
the same file. This integration makes it much easier for the committee to compile the
quiz questions without going through multiple files.
While creating quiz questions, I had opportunities to read the articles more than
once in detail and understand them more in depth. Not only I volunteer to create
questions for other fellow medical dosimetrists, I also gain more knowledge for myself
when going through them. Since majority of the articles directly relate to medical
dosimetry and treatment planning, I can easily relate the information learned to my daily
practice and better myself in general knowledge of radiation oncology as well as
treatment planning techniques.
