Welcome!back!to!term!4.!This!term!will!be!another!really!busy!one!with!lots!of!great!
learning!happening!in!and!out!of!the!classrooms!coupled!with!assessments!to!assist!our!
teachers!with!report!writing.!We!have!our!Year!4!team!off!to!Living!Springs!next!week!
and!our!Year!5!and!6!students!are!going!to!Wainui!in!the!second!to!last!week!of!term.!!
!

We!welcome!Brooke!Young!to!our!Year!1!team.!Brooke!was!a!teaching!student!earlier!in!
the!year!and!has!been!employed!to!teach!our!new!entrant!class!until!the!end!of!the!year.!
Brooke!brings!enthusiasm,!fun,!knowledge!and!maturity!beyond!her!years!and!the!
students!in!her!class!will!have!the!perfect!introduction!to!their!first!few!months!of!
schooling.!
!

It!is!so!nice!to!see!and!feel!the!weather!warming!up.!Our!school!policy!states!hats!must!
be!worn!when!outside!in!Terms!1!and!4.!Hats!are!a!part!of!our!school!uniform!so!the!hats!
worn!must!be!school!hats.!!

Out!of!School!Achievements!!
The!St!Albans!Superheroes!indoor!cricket!
team!played!in!a!tournament!themed!on!
the!World!Cup,!playing!as!Sri!Lanka.!They!
played!very!well!and!won!first!place!in!
Division!4!and!were!all!awarded!gold!
medals.!They!played!the!last!two!terms!at!
Indoor!Stadium!at!Iverson!Terrace.!!All!the!
team!are!from!St!Albans!School.!In!order!

Message!from!the!Board!of!Trustees!
Are!you!a!Sports!or!Community!Group!who!use!the!School!Grounds?!
The!Board!is!currently!preparing!an!application!to!the!Rata!Foundation!(formerly!The!
Canterbury!Community!Trust)!for!funding!to!install!two!multi!surface!courts!in!our!
current!netball/basketball!court!area.!In!order!to!apply!for!this!funding!we!need!to!
provide!evidence!that!our!school!grounds!are!used!by!the!St!Albans!community!outside!
of!school!hours!and!multi!surface!courts!would!benefit!the!community.!If!you!are!a!
sports!or!community!group!who!uses!the!school!grounds!we!would!appreciate!you!filling!
in!a!submission!stating:!

School!Pool!
We!are!currently!undertaking!general!maintenance!to!the!get!the!pool!ready!for!the!
2015/2016!swim!season.!Part!of!the!preparation!is!training!volunteer!members!of!the!
school!community!to!be!rostered!on!to:!
!
open!and!close!the!pool!
!
clean!the!pool!and!pool!area!including!toilets!
!
test!chemical!levels!so!that!it!is!safe!for!everyone!to!swim.!
Having!an!understanding!of!pools!and!pool!systems!is!advantageous!in!this!role.!!You!
would!be!required!to!be!rostered!on!for!approximately!two!weeks!of!the!pool!season,!
usually!one!week!in!term!time!and!one!week!in!the!school!holidays.!If!you!are!
interested!in!volunteering!or!would!like!more!information!please!email!Karen!

ICAS!and!AMT!Competition!J!Exciting!News!
As!you!know,!each!year!we!have!many!children!taking!part!
in!ICAS!exams!and!the!Australian!Maths!Trust!Competition.!
This!year!we!are!proud!to!announce!two!very!special!
awards.!

Cindy!Mei,!Year!4!is!attending!a!ceremony!at!Christ's!College!
on!Friday!to!receive!an!award!for!being!the!best!student!in!
the!school!in!the!Australian!Maths!Competition.!
!

James!Hart,!Year!4!has!been!awarded!a!medal!for!the!ICAS!
Mathematics!Competition.!This!means!he!was!the!highest!
achieving!year!4!student!in!the!country.!This!year!over!
980,000!entries!were!received!but!only!514!students!from!
Australia!and!100!students!from!New!Zealand!and!the!

Pacific!Region!were!awarded!medals!for!their!outstanding!achievement.!Congratulations!
to!all!of!these!high!achievers!!James!has!been!invited!to!Auckland!to!receive!his!award.!
