    artsandfreeexpressioninthiscountry.TheGreenPartywillimmediatelyrepealBillC51.I
    wasthefirstMPandpartyleadertostandagainstBillC51,andthefirsttocallforitsrepeal.Bill
    C51willnotmakeCanadianssafer.Itwilldotheopposite.

    Theartscannotthriveinacultureofmasssurveillance,warrantlessdisclosure,andcriminalized
    expression.Ifwedonothingtostopit,C51andthesurveillancecultureitrepresentswillslowly
    chokealloxygenfromourartscommunity.

    WemustswiftlyrepealBillC51andgobacktothedrawingboard.However,undoingthe
    damagetheHarperyearshavedonetofreeexpressionwilltakemorethansimplyrepealing
    C51.

    WeneedtoimmediatelybegintodismantlethesurveillanceculturecreatedbytheLiberalsat
    theturnofthecentury,andincreasedpiecebypieceduringtheHarperConservativestenure.
    Weneedtorollbackthecreepingsurveillancestatewhichthreatenstochillexpressioninallits
    forms.Wecannolongertoleratesurveillancewithoutawarrantissuedinanopencourt.We
    needtoendthemasssurveillanceofCanadiansbytheCommunicationsSecurityEstablishment
    (CSE),castingawidenetforcollectionthatknowinglyincludesinnocentCanadians.CSISand
    CSEneedproperoversight,byaninclusiveparliamentarycommitteesimilartoourFiveEyes
    peers,aswellasbythePrivacyCommissioner.Thisoversightmustbeadequatelyfundedto
    meettheirbasicmandateofoversightandactasaneffectivewatchdog.

    WeneedpoliticianswhoarewillingtodefendtherightsofCanadians.Wewillstandupfor
    Canadians'righttofreeexpression.Wewillendmasssurveillance.WewillrepealBillC51.
