The Western Australian Museum in Perth has recently received a very
large donation of historical photographs from the distinguished Barnett family. The 100 year old photos capture images of visiting English dignitaries as well as pictures of indigenous Australians working together with Chinese and European settlers at the turn of the 19th century. The Museum is using the recent acquisition of the photos to launch a new exhibition entitled Back to the Beginning of WA. The showcase will feature high quality original photographs which have been in the personal collection of the Barnett family for approximately 100 years and are considered by the museum to be an unseen insight into our states wonderful beginning. This is truly like stepping into a time machine and going back to see how Western Australia was built said Thomas DeLonge, museum curator. These photographs really make you feel like youre right there next to these people creating history, he added. The exhibition will be held from January 1 to March 1 of 2016 at the Perth museum to coincide with the 400 year anniversary of the first European
landing on Western Australia by the captain of the Dutch East India
Company in 1616. These newly donated photographs will help to inspire people to explore and share their identity and culture. A preview of the photographs will be held on November 1st and will be open to the general public between 1-5pm.
