-Homework: Please make sure that homework


competition is a priority each week. During a typical
week, you child should be completing ONE spelling
activity, TWO reading activities, and approximately
THREE-FOUR math activities. Homework is found on
the calendar above. Please take a few minutes to
review your childs homework to make sure it is being
completed correctly. Dont forget to read! Your child
should be reading 20 minutes nightly. Please record
on the log. Thank you for supporting your childs
learning from home.
-Reading Challenge:
Monthly Goal: Students will need to complete the
nightly reading log and turn it in on time (20 minutes
each night) to earn the Pizza Hut certificate each
month (Oct.-March).
Yearly Goal: Read 40 or more books and complete 5
activities by May 2016.

Reminders:

Writing- Students will be editing and publishing their second


writing piece for the year.
Reading- Students will discuss text images and how they
support the text.
Math- Students will continue to work with place value when
comparing two 3 digit numbers. They will also be skip
counting by fives and tens, both forward and backwards.
*By the end of second grade, all students need to know, from
memory, all sums of two one-digit numbers.
Science- Students will continue learning about solids and
liquids in our Solids and Liquids Unit. The scientists will come
Tuesday, the 20th. The students will be exploring liquids and
its properties.
Practice at home: Encourage your child with extra math
practice to practice fluency with addition and subtraction facts.

Book Baggie

Look for the note that went home describing


the Book Baggie Sheet Protector. Students
will be using the bookmark to discuss their
books at home. They will turn the written
response prompt located in their baggie on
Friday, with their reading log and reading
passage.
