Jeanine Nicarico Child Advocacy and Family Center Dedication
Remarks for Chairman Dan Cronin
Tuesday September 17, 2013
12 Noon
Good Afternoon.
I would like to welcome all of you here today for this deeply meaningful dedication. Many of you were here exactly 14 months ago today, on July 17th 2012, I remember it was a scorching hot summer day when we broke ground for this facility.
Tom and Pat Nicarico, thank you for being here. We admire your strength and your commitment to your daughters special legacy.
Going forward today and everyday this center will honor and remember the life of a 10 year old girl with endearing dimpled smile and sparkling eyes. Her name and the family name you share becomes a legacy, a beacon of light in times of darkness, instilling hope and dignity in each child that is reached here, and each case where justice is served.
I am particularly humbled and proud to be a part of this ceremony, not because I am the Chairman, but because I am a father. Like many fathers I cherish my daughters and I often think of the courage displayed by the Nicaricos. And the beautiful way they have honored their daughter here and through the Jeanine Nicarico Memorial Literacy Fund.
As we watch our children grow we find it difficult to fathom the unthinkable, that a childs innocence and even their life can be taken by a violent criminal. Even in the nicest neighborhoods, the safest environments, the most unlikely places, children are at risk, they need our support, and protection.
This beautiful building is state of the art. The nurturing spirits of the people who will work here to protect and defend children who have been victimized and traumatized, are essential to their coping and their healing. The outstanding work being done here will help lead to justice.
The former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela said something that applies so well here today-- He said: Safety and security dont just happen, they are the result of collective consensus and public investment. We owe our children, the most vulnerable citizens in our society, a life free of violence and fear.
