To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing this letter to express my interest to further advance my knowledge and
understanding in the field of education, with an intense focus on special education and Autism.
My passion is to improve the quality life of children with Autism and other learning disabilities
through my education and many years of professional experience working with children in home
and in various educational settings.
I have completed the Masters degree at UBC in Special Education in 2014, with a concentration
in Autism. The program has allowed me to study the framework of evident based interventions to
improve the conditions of children with learning difficulties. In summer 2014, I was fortunate to
become the classroom assistant at the University of British Columbia International Summer
Program, where I provided learning support for 2 undergraduate courses and assisted
international students from partner universities in China. My role was to help them understand
course content using both English and Mandarin as needed .In 2015, I was offered an adjunct
professor position at the University of British Columbia, where I taught again in the International
Summer Program at UBC: EPSE 432 Classroom management and EPSE 433 Assessment and
Positive Behavior Support in School and Community Setting.
I became a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) in 2014. With many years of preparation
as a behavior therapist at ABA Learning Centre since 2008, I hope to continue to deliver
evidence-based interventions primarily with children with special needs between ages 3-12 years
old. I have extensive experience in conducting behavioral assessments, designing behavioral
support plans, and providing training to parents and Behavior Interventionists on related topics. I
also helped bridge the home, school and the community learning environments for these
children, and support them to become more integrated into their families and into the society.
In addition to my experience in the university level teaching position, I am currently a member
of the Positive Behavior Support (PBS) workgroup directed by Joe Lucyshn (Professor at the
University of British Columbia). I attend and contribute at monthly meetings and work together
with my colleagues to develop culturally responsive PBS training for families in Asian countries.
We are in the process of developing and participating in workshops in North America and in
Asia.
I believe my fluency in multiple languages, training and broad experiences in working with
children with developmental disabilities are strong assets will be of value to the client base and
achievements of the organization.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to connecting with you.
Sincerely,
Bella, Siu Man Chan
