Students Grades
PK-2
Digging Deeper into the Student Performance Standards

By: Chelsea Johnson

1. Illustrate and communicate original ideas
and stories using digital tools and media-rich
resources. (1, 2)
 Students will be in groups where they use a
classroom camera to take pictures while they
act out scenes from a story.
 They will then put the pictures in sequential
order in a slideshow to show the class.
 Another fun idea would be acting out things
they like to do for fun in America and then
exchanging pictures/slideshows with a pen pal
class in a different country.
5. Find and evaluate information related to a
current or historical person or event using
digital resources. (3)
 Students will use computers to
research a historical person. While
searching online for information they
will also need to find one controversial
thing about that person. They will need
to cite their sources.
 After they have this information they
will use it to write a 3 to 5 minute
narrative speech as that person about
themselves.
6. Use simulations and graphical organizers to
explore and depict patterns of growth such as the
life cycles of plants and animals. (1, 3, 4)
 Students will use technology to
make food chains during science to
show the order and hierarchy of the
animal world.
 Another cool idea would be to have
the students get something (an
insect) where they can measure it
once a week and then graph how
big it got each week.
10. Demonstrate the ability to navigate in virtual
environments such as electronic books,
simulation software, and Web sites. (6)
 We will have a class blog where
each week the students can go
on with their parents and
comment on something and
communicate with others.
 Another idea would be during
Language Arts time during
rotations for the kids on the
computers to read books on
programs which the program
could say the word for the
students if they click on it when
they get stuck.
