Thoughts/Ideas
Culturally responsive teaching is
making the content relevant to student
backgrounds and experiences.
Students will be more engaged if the
content is relevant to them.
Cultural teaching means focusing on
specific ethnic issues in society.

Questions
How do I know which culture to
respond to? The majority of students
most likely will be Hispanic, maybe, but
what about those students who arent?
How do I avoid incorporating my own
bias into the curriculum?
Analogy
Cultural responsiveness is unity.

Thoughts/Ideas
Culturally responsive teaching is
making an effort to understand
students socially and ethnically by
conducting home visits and talking with
community members to receive insights
Learning is more of an active process
where we are all learning from each
other, rather than a passive one where
the students learn from the teacher.
Students not only need to learn about
each other, but they also need to
understand more about themselves as
a diverse individual.
Questions
What about students who arent aware
of their own cultures? We cant assume
that just because someone is Hispanic
that they are an expert about their
culture.
How do I avoid incorporating my own
bias into the curriculum?
Analogy
Cultural responsiveness is thawing
away differences.

Connection
It takes an exceptional amount of effort on my part as an educator to help
students explore their own identities as well as understand the identities of others
by allowing more active learning opportunities.
