 TOURISM:
 Tourism makes an important contribution to the economy of South
Africa. Our beautiful country has many attractions for tourists from all
over the world.

 The pleasant weather conditions make it a favourite destination for many

who want to escape the cold winters of the countries in the northern
hemisphere.

 The exchange rate is also favourable for tourists from abroad.

 Tourism creates thousands of jobs, as well as an influx of foreign
currency which helps our economy grow. It provides masses of
opportunities for the informal sector. Therefore it is in our best interest
to help promote tourism by offering good service and helping tourists to
enjoy their stay in a safe and friendly environment. When tourists have
enjoyed their visit they talk about it to other people, who then also visit
South Africa. We all play an important role as ambassadors for our
country when we interact with holiday- makers or tourists from overseas.

 South African also visit many places during their holidays. They are just
as important as tourists from overseas. They visit the national
monuments and museums in their home towns as well. Many national
monuments offer guided tours to visitors to provide more information
about the history of specific places.

 South Africa is the only country in the world where one can see the “Big
Five” (elephant, lion, rhino, buffalo and leopard) in their natural
environment. The fastest-interested particularly in the natural scenery
and wildlife and who support their protection.

 Tourism is the fastest-growing sector in our economy. Job opportunities

in the formal and informal sectors of the economy are a result of this
expansion in tourism. All over the country South Africans have opened
their houses as Bed & Breakfast facilities and guesthouses. These are
good alternatives to hotels and lodges when people want to experience
our South African culture.
