Undeniable: A Journey Through Evolution,

Creationism, and Education
If you are like many people, you may have an internal quarrel over whether or not
Creationism or Evolution led to how modern humans came about on Earth. If you have been
living your life under the constant influence of religion and religious ceremonies, or have a
background in religious education, it may be very hard to accept Evolution or other scientific
creation principles. Maybe Evolution seems like it is not completely science because it has not

been completely proved (though, there is a lot of evidence pointing to its exactitude). In his
book, Undeniable: Evolution and the Science of Creation, William Sanford Nye battles the
foundations of Creationism and disproves many Creationist arguments. Nye creates a strong
justification for Evolution, and shows how Creationism just cannot be right. Nye also explains
the importance of the education of evolution in both adults and children.
Bill Nye the Science Guy as he is commonly known by, but where did this popular
scientist come from? William Sanford Nyes journey started on November 27, 1955 in
Washington D.C., where he was born. At a young age of 7 he started showing his brilliance in the
area of science, by observing the small wings on a bumblebee that keep the large body afloat. He
was inadvertently observing one of the mysteries of evolution. He later read that these bees
wings were not proportionate to their bodies and they shouldnt be able to fly.
During his childhood he worked hard through school getting a bachelor's degree from
Cornell in science; mechanical engineering specifically. He started his journey into the world of
science by exploring many different areas of science, but he ended up finding interest in space
and evolution. He wrote this book about evolution through and to challenge creationism. Ken
Ham challenged him to a debate about creationism versus evolution. Nye was pro-evolution and
Ham was pro-creationism. This led Nye to research and talk about how evolution and
creationism relate, differ, and how they are influenced through different types of education.
Finally, Nye ended up writing his book which he aptly titled Undeniable: Evolution and the
Science of Creation, which expresses all of these ideas.
Although he based this book on evolution of organisms here on Earth, Bill Nye also has
strong opinions about religion. Throughout the book he takes an indepth look at the battle over
evolution and creationism and covers why creationism is not a logical theory. He bases his
argument on how creationism can have strong arguments to back up their theories but they have
no evidence to base their argument on. He uses the example of Noah's Ark from the creationist
biblical text. The Ark is loaded with two of each species from around the world. There are two
reasons he explains why this won't work. At the time, they did not have the technology to build
the size of the boat that would be needed. Even if they could build a boat it would be impossible
to get every species on the planet to board that boat. Nye provides a well constructed argument
that is suitable for any curious scientist that wants an in depth look into evolution versus
creationism.
Undeniable: Evolution and the Science of Creation, by Nye challenges many arguments
concerning creationism and he tries to prove it wrong. He creates a strong opinion about
education and how there should be more of it at all ages. He was very knowledgable, and
discussed many of his opinions in a lot of different ways and subjects. We all felt very informed
and this literary selection made us all feel very open-minded about how the world began and how
we came here.
