Thank you for coming tour Curriculum Night on last Thursday.

Thank you to those of you who completed the AdvancED Survey.
The AdvancED survey reflects our commitment at CMS to nurture an ongoing, district-wide
conversation about CMS. The questions were developed by AdvancED, an outside organization
that works with schools and school systems to help them improve. They are designed to help us
learn more about what you as a parent may be looking for in a high quality school. Your responses,
once received, will inform decisions to help improve student achievement and strengthen our
school.
If you hjave not completed the survey please use the link below:

student to continue reading nightly and to complete all assignments for this course.
Please know that this a reading intensive course and that having them to read nightly
will help to increase their reading stamina.

This week continued to make plans for our International Festival which is scheduled for
Saturday, November 21, 2015 from 10:00AM 1:00 PM we are excited about this
annual school wide event. The countries that we selected are Palestine and Syria. The

Dear MGLA Families,

This year, MGLA will be allowing students to wear appropriate costumes that represent a book character to
school on Oct. 30th. Students who dress up MUST be able to discuss the character and bring the book to school and hold
on to their book all day.

It is important to remember that appropriate school behavior is expected.

In order to maintain a safe school, the following guidelines for costumes have been established:
1. Dress-up for students and teachers will take place on October 30.
2. All costumes must be in good taste and appropriate for school. Revealing, see-through costumes, gang-like
attire, reference to controlled substances and/or illegal activities, and costumes that are offensive to any group,
are not allowed. Be creative, but be considerate and smart. Remember the costume should represent a book
character.
3. You may not wear clothing or costumes that violate the district dress code.
4. Masks are not permitted. Hats may be worn if they are part of the costume, but should be removed during
class time.
5. All make-up should be applied at home. No make-up or hair spray should be brought to school.
6. As always, skateboards, and roller-blades are not to be ridden on campus, large toys or props that interfere
with teaching/learning are not allowed, and toy or replica weapons are never to be brought to school.
7. All students wanting to participate in the Character Book Day Celebration Dance 4 th block, Friday October 30
must pay $1.00 to participate. Information on ticket sales will be communicated in next weeks newsletter.
