Objective
To determine the density of different materials
Procedures
Density of a Regular Solid
1. Weigh the solid.
2. Measure the dimensions of the solid using the Vernier caliper. The formulas of the
volumes of a cylinder and a sphere are indicated below. Use these to compute the volume
of the solid.

3. Calculate the density of the solid.


4. Repeat steps 1-3 for the other solid.
Density of a Liquid
(Note: Use the assigned graduated cylinder for each liquid.)
1. Weigh a dry graduated cylinder.
2. Pour some liquid into the graduated cylinder and measure the volume.
3. Weigh the graduated cylinder with the liquid. The mass of the graduated liquid is the
difference of your two readings.
4. Calculate the density of the liquid.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 for the other liquid.
