Recall the idea of length of a chord

Describe the idea of length of a chord
Perform geometrical skills
Execute the above concept in new situation
Judge the appropriateness in the given situation

PRE-REQUISTICS
The pupil knows
(1) About circle
(2) Chords
(3) Centre
SUPPORTING MATERIALS:
Chart paper cuttings

INTERACTION PROCEDURE
The teacher begins the class, by asking questions to the
students in order to check their previous knowledge.
What are the peculiarities of the chord which are at
equidistant from the centre of a circle?
(equallength)
(recalls)
Is their any change in the length of the chord, if the distance
of a chord from the centre of the circle changes?
(?)
The teacher then divide the students in to groups and each
group is provided with an activity card the teacher provides
cards regarding circles, having chords of various length the
students have it to find the change in the length of the chord
when the distance from the centre of the circle changes.
Each group would observe the figure and note down the
results.

ACTUAL RESPONSE

(As the chords far away from the centre, their lengths
decreases)
(identifies)
Which the largest chord?
(diameter)

(recognize)

Why?
(the longest chord passing through the centre is diameter)
REVIEW AND APPLICATION
Draw circles having different radius and mark centre point.
Then draw various chords in it and find the distance of the
chord from the centre.
What we have to do next?
(Draw circles and draw various chords on it. then find the
distance between the chord and centre of the circle)
(identifies)

FOLLOW UP ACTIVITY
Draw the circle of radius 5cm and draw chords of various
lengths on it. Then find the distance between the chord and
centre of the circle
