Because You WatchedBreakfast at Tiffanys

Netflix Guides a Millennial Through the Golden Age of Cinema
By Hannah Koeller
Following An Affair to Remember, I chose to watch Breakfast at Tiffanys!

Synopsis: Fortune hunter Holly Golightly finds herself captivated by aspiring writer Paul Varjak, who
moves into her building on a wealthy womans dime. (source: Netflix)
Breakfast at Tiffanys came out in November of 1961. It is regarded as one of the most iconic and
pivotal movies of the early 60s. The movie was nominated for five Oscars and won two. Of those two,
the well-known tune Moon River won for Best Original song. Im not embarrassed to admit I
recognized the song from Gossip Girl, which often references Audrey Hepburn films throughout the
series.

Im so excited I finally got to see this movie! Its based on the popular novella by Truman Capote, one
of Americas greatest writers. Having finished his best-selling nonfiction novel In Cold Blood the same
day I watched Breakfast at Tiffanys, I am truly impressed with the range of characters and genres he
mastered in his lifetime.
I have become a self-proclaimed Audrey Hepburn superfan. After Roman Holiday (which I actually
prefer) and now Breakfast at Tiffanys, I cant say enough good things. Not only was she beautiful,
but also hilarious, talented and a humanitarian in her own right.
Lets not forget about George Peppard, who plays writer Paul Varjak. How had I never heard of this
guy before?? Very handsome. Not a bad looking leading couple in this movie if I do say so myself. I
would love to spend a day with either one of them doing things Ive never done before!

Breakfast at Tiffanys has so many layers and major plot points. This keeps it exciting and interesting
the whole time. Before watching, I knew very little about the plot of the book or the movie, so I didnt
know what to expect. Sometimes thats the best way to watch a movie. Especially one as good as
this!

You know whats wrong with you, Miss Whoever-you-are? Youre chicken, youve got no guts. Youre
afraid to stick out your chin and say, Okay, lifes a fact, people do fall in love, people do belong to
each other, because thats the only chance anybodys got for real happiness. You call yourself a free
spirit, a wild thing, and youre terrified somebodys gonna stick you in a cage. Well baby, youre
already in that cage. You built it yourself. And its not bounded in the west by Tulip, Texas, or in the
east by Somali-land. Its wherever you go. Because no matter where you run, you just end up
running into yourself. Paul Varjak (George Peppard)
