Synopsis: Cary Grant and Ginger Rogers make a delicious screwball comedy team in this wacky film
about a middle-aged bore who may have invented a youth serum. (source: Netflix)
Im really glad this movie came up in my suggestions. Netflix didnt provide me with many options
within the appropriate time frame again (or that I havent seen), but this was a good choice. Within
the first 60 seconds, it was funny. Monkey Business came out in 1952 and stars Cary Grant as Dr.
Barnaby Fulton and Ginger Rogers as his wife, Edwina Fulton.
Another thing I like about these older movies is that actors could do/say things during this
time without worrying about offending someone or having to immediately apologize. I cant
even count how many public apologies people in the public eye have had to make in the past
few months, just to satisfy those who were offended or complained about something. In
Monkey Business, when Cary Grant takes the youth serum and feels like a 10-year-old, he see
kids playing as Native Americans and joins them. He paints his face, dances and chants. I can
only imagine the kind of apology he would have to make today. But this was lighthearted and in
good fun. Not meant to hurt anybodys feelings.

At different points in the movie, both of the actors have to act like 20-year-olds. And, as someone
around that age, I found it hilarious. Ginger Rogers was overly emotional, annoying and took longer
than a few minutes to get ready. Instead of the charming, suave Cary Grant we typically see, he is
hyper and constantly talking. I loved it!
Then, towards the end of the movie, they each drink so much youth serum that
they, unintentionally, reach the mental equivalent of 10-year-olds. Which is even better. They
hide under tables, chase each other and Edwina writes something on a chalkboard that really
doesnt impress Barnaby.

The best word to describe this movie, if I could only use one, would be goofy.
Top 3 Takeaways
1. Youre only old when you forget youre young.
2. Watch Cary Grant always.
3. Sometimes the present can be unsatisfying. But thats life.
Favorite quote:
Im beginning to wonder if being young is all its cracked up to be. The dream of youth.
We remember it as a time of nightingales and valentines, and what are the facts?
Maladjustment, near idiocy and a series of low-comedy disasters. Thats what youth is. I dont see
how anyone survives it. Dr. Barnaby Fulton (Cary Grant)
