Week 5 Reflection Journal
Share something you learned from the Richard Stearns reading this week. How did you
integrate it into your conclusion?
I learned that when Jesus spoke, he spoke in parables but the parables were simple
enough for the children to understand. Also that he condemned the religious leaders who would
not speak to those in prison or that committed a crime. I emphasized this idea and took it to a
step that a child would think about, of why wait for someone to end up in jail? Speak to them
now or as they are dealing with court matters and hard times. Maybe after reading the story of
Aaron Swartz. I realize that my paragraph could be better relating to the Bible message and will
be focusing revision on it this week.
Reflect on how the assignments from weeks 1-4 prepared you to write your first draft?
The biggest aid this week in writing the first draft has to be the annotated bibliography. I
am finding that the information on this topic is very scattered and I am having to cite or pick the
better article for the point I am trying to make. The literature review would be next in line,
helping me with the structure of the essay. I refer back to it if I am having trouble with where I
am in the essay. Last, but not least is the proposal where I use it as a goal to try to achieve;
making sure to give the information I am trying to communicate to the reader.

Take a look at your multimodal design. One thing to help you design your project is to
think about your audience. Who do you imagine to be your readers (besides me)? Do you
feel like the design of your project will appear to those readers?
I imagine my readers to be the newest generation fresh out of high school. I imagine
more of a view of what the activists are trying to achieve, acknowledging their good intentions,
but also showing that some of the things that they are responsible can be seen as very bad things,
especially to the court system. Taking that I think that showing the appropriate way to
accomplish the right thing (natural rights), though it may seem a bit political, is the better option.
Most importantly it comes down to instilling their need for change. As I am still working on what
the multimodal side will say, the appearance has yet to be polished.
If you have started to include images, infographics, videos, etc., think about how they are
integrated into the written portion of your project. Do you have clear captions that include
the citation and description of what you want your readers to get out of it? Do you also
refer to the images in your paragraphs by using notations? For example: (see figure 1).
I have not currently gathered any infographics for my project yet. I have gathered a few
images relating to key figures of my topic. I have also found about two or three videos relating to
the subject matter including a documentary and an insight to a major hacktivist group. I
decided that the website route will probably be smarter so the videos can be placed off to the
sides, pictures at key points and infographics throughout. I hope to show the reader that this is a
current issue and show that what has been in the movies since the movie Hackers from 1995 is
not far from reality now.

Lets work on your thesis (again): What is your thesis statement? Is the current problem
clearly stated? Is it clear which solution you will be advocating? Do you forecast the outline
of your project?
Thesis: Todays laws used to charge cybercrimes serve to be too broad and in most cases the
punishment does not fit the crime. The Computer Fraud and Abuse Act was originally born to
make cybercrimes punishable, but has become a power-hungry piece of legislation responsible
for punishing average Americans with charges the top-notch cybercriminal would receive. The
need for reform through a Code-Based Theory of Interpretation is needed with reinforcement
of the reform proposal Aarons Law to stop the tyrannical snowball that is gaining speed in the
digital age.
Answers:
I believe that the problem is stated in communicating that the Computer Fraud and Abuse
Act was born with good intentions, but has slowly gained more and more power and is now out
of control. In speaking about the Code-Based theory of Interpretation and the reinforcement of
Aarons Law my solution I am advocating is clear. The one thing I do not necessarily do is
forecast and outline for my project. I will be altering my thesis this week to include the outline.
Now that you have your first draft done, what do you still need to research and/or revise?
I feel like my Biblical comparison is lacking. I am realizing the differences in my
writing/thinking at different times of the day. I feel like I also need to shave excess from some
topics and expand on others. I need to look further into the Lori Drew case I believe as some of

the details seem odd. The MIT issue with Aaron Swartz I have actually learned new details as I
am writing this I need to incorporate from his documentary.
