Course Expectations
2015-2016

AP Calculus Exam: It is expected that students enrolled in Calculus will sit for the AP Calculus exam. The test,
being administered May 5th , must be paid for in March. The cost for all AP exams is $92.00.
Materials Required
3-ring binder
4 notebook dividers with labeled sections:
Warm-ups,
Notes/Classwork,
Tests/Quizzes
Homework
Notebook paper
Pencils and pens
Calculator (TI-84 Plus or TI-84 Silver Preferred)

LHS BYOD Policy

In accordance with the BYOD (Bring Your Own


Device) VBCPS School Board Policy 5-36.8, students
may be allowed to utilize personal portable
communication devices in class/study block for
instructional purposes only when directed by the
instructor. The instructor will provide appropriate
guidelines for the use of the device. Violations of the
guidelines will result in disciplinary action in
accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and
school rules.
Grading

Grades will be determined by the cumulative point


system with each assignment worth approximately Homework (50-80), Warm-up/Classwork exercises (520), Quizzes (15-40), Tests (100), Class Presentations
(50)
The average for each quarter will be determined by
dividing the total number of points earned by the total
number of points possible.
The VBCPS Grading Scale applies:
A 93-100
A- 90-92
B+ 87-89
B 83-86
B- 80-82
C+ 77-79
C 73-76
C- 70-72
D+ 67-69
D 64-66
E 0-63
Textbooks
Calculus; Graphical, Numerical, Algebraic, Finney,
Demana, Waits, and Kennedy (Addison-Wesley
Publishing Company, 2012) Students are responsible
for the replacement cost of a lost, stolen or damaged
textbook. The cost of this text is $108.97.

Make-up Work
It is your responsibility to obtain and complete all
missed assignments and schedule appointments for tests
and quizzes.
Complete all missed assignments within a reasonable
time frame (one day for each excused absence).
Assignments missed due to OSS will be reviewed for
correction however; a grade of zero will be recorded.
You must contact me the next school day to discuss
make-up work for any unexcused tardies & absences or
you will receive zero credit for missed assignments.
Homework

Is designed to reinforce and extend classroom learning,


prepare students for new information, and promote
creative thinking and independent research.
Assigned each class.
Turned in and checked for completeness each class.

To ensure student success, assignments must be


completed in order to take assessments and
evaluations. In other words, in order to complete
an evaluation, you must do the preparation!
A zero will be entered into the gradebook and will
remain there until you take the test.

Expected Behavior

Be responsible for your own learning!


Be prompt be ready to learn when class begins.
Be prepared have materials with you and know due
dates.
Be a polite and positive participant speak in a normal
tone of voice and listen attentively.
Be productive turn in work on time and always do
your best.
Demonstrate caring, dignity & integrity at all times!
No eating, drinking (except water), or personal
electronic devices in class.
Tests and Quizzes
Tests will be given at the end of each unit.
Quizzes will be given often and may or may not be
announced.
ALL students will be required to take any test or quiz
that is announced in advance regardless of whether or
not they attended the block prior to the test or quiz day.

SchoolNet Parent Portal


Parents are encouraged to access your students academic
records for grades, attendance, and student assignments
through the SchoolNet Parent Portal. Grades will be
updated at least once per week. If you have any
questions about what is posted you may contact me. Only
parents or guardians listed in our student database will
have access to information for their child. Additional
Portal information is available on the VBCPS and
Landstown High School websites.

School Policies
Students are expected to follow all rules, regulations, and
procedures in the student handbook and VBCPS Student
Code of Conduct at all times.
Cell phones must be off and out of sight during the
school day.
5 x 5 Rule. No passes will be issued during the first 5
and last 5 minutes of class.
Tardy Policy: 1st - warning, 2nd - after school detention &
parent contact, 3rd and following - referral.
