Lesson Plan
Lesson: Hammurabis Code Today
Standards Addressed:
Objectives: SWBAT apply Hammurabis concept of laws to current laws today
by presenting looking up different Hammurabis laws and then compare
them to questions on a worksheet.
Materials Needed: 1750BC worksheet, Hammurabis laws worksheet, loose
leaf paper for notes, and a writing utensil.
Outline of Day:
1. complete warmup,
2. review how day is going to work,
3. remind students of questions they need to answer,
4. remind students of what they need to do as the audience,
5. then go over list,
6. complete list,
7. wrap up.
Activity: Students will present their two Hammurabi laws in a verbal
presentation to the class. They will then tell the class if/how the laws relate
to todays laws. The audience will be taking notes on the different laws and
how they compare.
Assignments:
CFU/Assessment: CFU will come in the form of cold call and class discussion
throughout the presentation. Assessment will be in the form of the CFU and
checking their notes.
Notes: Notes will be taken by the students while they are in the audience.
They will also be answering the following questions for each of the laws they
choose:
1. Do we have a similar law today?
2. What aspect of life does this law affect?
3. Whom is this law designed to benefit?
4. Why do you think this law was needed?
5. What kinds of things might happen if the law didnt exist?
