EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST

CALD CONSUMER AND CARER PARTICIPATION IN THE


DEVELOPMENT OF THE QUEENSLAND STATE-WIDE PLAN FOR
MULTICULTURAL MENTAL HEALTH

The Queensland Transcultural Mental Health Centre is seeking Expressions of


Interest from mental health consumers and carers from culturally and
linguistically diverse backgrounds to participate in the development of a new Plan
for Multicultural Mental Health in Queensland.

Purpose
The purpose will be to establish a Consumer and Carer Working Group to
facilitate consumer and carer participation in the development of a new Plan for
Multicultural Mental Health in Queensland, aligned with the Queensland Plan for
Mental Health 2007-2017 and incorporating both non-government and
government sectors, as the officially endorsed plan by Queensland Health to
replace the 1996 NESB MH Policy Statement.

The new Plan will be the strategic state-wide policy and service delivery
framework for ensuring culturally appropriate and responsive mental health
provision and for improving mental health outcomes of people from culturally and
linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds in Queensland.

How will consumers and carers participate?


It is envisaged that the Consumer and Carer Working Group will meet monthly
for 2 hours with the project team and be involved in pre-reading draft documents
until the end of June 2010. Remuneration will be at $25 per hour.
