Carbon is Everywhere!!

Did you know that carbon found in the atmosphere comes from
natural sources as well as human sources such as burning
fossil fuels? AND We (our class) can capture carbon being
emitted from soil and measure it?

Challenge: Find one plot of soil that you

think has low carbon emissions and one that
has high carbon emissions. Work with a partner.
BONUS: Can your group find a site with the
lowest or even negative carbon emissions?

Methods and materials:

see handout

Carefully read the handout

and follow instructions for
how to measure the carbon
emissions from your selected
plots.
pay extra attention to the
safety protocols!

Where is the carbon you are collecting coming from and going to?
what process are happening in your plots to reduce or increase
atmospheric carbon?
Why is it important to understand the flow of carbon?
