Traits

The order of the nitrogen bases along a

gene forms a genetic code.

Nitogen bases
We have 4 types of nitrogen bases:
Thymine (T)
Guanine (G)
Cytosine (C)
Adenine (A)
T=A
A=T
C=G
G=C
Note:in RNA it is Uracil instead of Thymine

Genes and DNA

A gene is a part of a DNA molecule that
contains the information
to code one specific
protein.

The bases in a gene are

arranged in a specific order.
Each gene has a specific place on
chromosomes.

Order of the Bases

Proteins are made up of Amino Acids.
About 20 amino acids combine and form
different proteins.
Different combinations
of amino acids make
different proteins.

How cells

During protein
synthesis the cell
uses information
from a gene on a
chromosome to produce
make aproteins?
specific protein

Cells use informations to produce amino

acids which combine and form proteins.
Proteins are produced in ribosomes.

RNA contains
AGC and
Uracil(instead of
Thymine)

Types of RNA

We have 3 types of RNA:

Messenger RNA
Transfer RNA
Ribosomal RNA

Difference between DNA and RNA

have
one different
The differencers are:
DNA
has
two
strand,
RNA has

Translating the code

Messenger RNA
Messenger RNA carries informations in
cytoplasm and attaches to the ribosomes.
Transfer RNA attaches to messenger RNA
and proteins grow.
