Lesson: Rome Republic Debates
Standards Addressed:
Objectives: SWBAT use concepts to connect the similarities and difference
between the CNN Student News and Ancient Romes Republic by watching
CNNs Student News then discussing its events and using the notes to relate
the modern day issues to Romes republic. SWBAT list the major cites of Italy
by working with a seatmate to fill in the map provided.
Materials Needed: PowerPoint notes from previous class, internet, CNN
student news video. Also, map, smartphone, writing utensil, class textbook.
Outline of Day:
1. complete warmup,
2. review how day is going to work. Have students retrieve notes from
prior class.
3. Discuss PowerPoint information from last class.
4. Watch video (stopping intermittently to discuss).
5. Ask how Republic relates to Republican Debate and other issues
from CNN News.
6. If time permits, students work with seatmate to fill in map using
phones and book.
7. If time does not permit, wrap up will be the students answering 2
questions on a post it and then turning it in.
Activity/Assignment: Students will be using information from their previous
class to relate and expand their understanding on the CNN Student News we
watch every final class of the week. Students will also be filling in a map with
the different Italian cites.
CFU/Assessment: CFU will come in the form of the warm up, discussion, and
the wrap up
