-Jigsaw Strategy: Students will be divided into 6 groups. Each group will have a different region in Africa. That group
will discuss what products are exported and imported of that region. They will show costs of producing and selling
the product.
-Students will rotate so that one group member from each region is able to give detail about the exporting/importing
of their region.

Guided and Independent Practice: On a poster board, students will write the word, definition and then draw a
picture explaining each term from the handout.
Closure: Discuss how exporting/importing are beneficial to Arkansas and to Africa. (Ex. Exporting creates jobs,
which helps the economy.)
Alternate Plan B: Have students look closer to home, discus how Arkansas and the U.S. benefit from the use of
importing/exporting goods. Explain that all regions in the U.S. provide some sort of product. Florida grows/ produces
oranges and sells them. And how Arkansas produces and exports rice and how that is one of our major exports.
Post-Assessment: -Have students go the grocery store with their parent/guardian and look at the different foods,
packaged or canned and see where that particular food came from. Students can also, find products in their home,
with names of the country, where the item was produced.
