Math This week we took our

Topic 6 test. We then moved on to Topic


7 which is all about multiplying ad dividing decimals. When multiplying
by a decimal, the decimal moves to the right. When dividing by a decimal, the decimal moves to the left.

Reading

Our story next week is the poem The Midnight Ride of


Paul Revere. We will talk about the significance of the poem and
work on deciphering the Old English within. We will continue our skill
study of authors purpose.

Grammar Next week we will continue reviewing our 5 grammar

skills from Unit 2. We will take Unit 2s grammar quiz on Wednesday.

Writing After spending the week learning about what persuasive

writing includes and testing out some examples, students will be given
their next writing topic next week. They will be given a debate topic
and the position they must right from. We will spend a couple of weeks
researching and writing our debates. Students will present their debates in front of the class at the conclusion of the unit.

Spelling- Our list focuses on final syllables. This will be a tough test.

Social Studies We spent this week reviewing chapter 3 which was


on European explorers. The test over this chapter will be on Monday!
Students can use their study guide, book, and notes to study. They
will be allowed to use their notes on the test. Our next chapter will be
on early European settlements in the new world.

Science-We are in the process of wrapping up our Solar System unit.

Students learned about the lunar cycle and its various phases this
week. They even created an edible lunar cycle out of Oreos! Next week
we will review our unit on the Solar System and take then test next
Friday.

Note From the Teacher:


Monday the new Book It calendar will be going home. Students must read 600 minutes
within the month in order to qualify for the free pizza certificate. Encourage your child to
read 20 minutes a day.
Scholastic book orders are for November will be due November 13. Christmas is right
around the corner and books make great gifts! Consider purchasing some books as Christmas presents. We can always arrange for a pick-up without your child knowing about it.
