Manual therapy technique used in this study is one of the preferred treatment

modes given to the subjects with acute patellofemoral pain syndrome. Manual therapy

technique which includes transverse friction massage to the lateral retinaculum, tilt

patellofemoral stretches and medial glide to the lateral retinaculum is effective for the

subjects who are having anterior knee pain and functional limitation due to

patellofemoral pain syndrome. These techniques reduce the pain to significant level

and also increase the range of motion of the knee joint and improve function in the

subjects with acute patellofemoral pain syndrome. There was a marked change in the

patellofemoral pain severity scale, ROM and step test score after treating the subjects

with these techniques of manual therapy.

Future studies with a control group and long term follow up so as to know the

long term effects of the treatment mode used in this study are warranted.
