Steps to produce a graph within a word document

There are many free graphing programs out on the web. Here are a few:
Download and install any of the following:
MathGV for Windows: http://www.mathgv.com/
Winplot for Windows: http://math.exeter.edu/rparris/winplot.html
GraphCalc for Windows: http://www.graphcalc.com/
Graph for Windows: http://www.padowan.dk/graph/

I use the Graph software from padowan.

Once you install, for example the Graph program. Run the program, and it will bring up
a blank axes. Go to the menu item called Function. Select Insert a function. Select
the standard function type, and in the box that says f(x) =, type your function.
y

For example, to graph

f ( x) 2 x 2 3 x 7

f(x)=-2*x^2-3x+7

In the f(x) = box, enter the

expression: -2*x^2 3x + 7.

The ^ symbol is exponent.

The * symbol is multiplication.
There are some options,
including color and label.
Then press okay. It will
display the graph.

To put this image into a word file: Use the menu item Copy the image and paste it into
a Word document.
There are various options to play around with; you can plot more than one graph on the
same axis. Sometimes you may need to set the axes to show a different range of
values. It is fairly intuitive and easy to use.
With the Graph software from padowan, you can also
graph inequalities:
Some of you may have access to Wolfram Alpha that would
be fine as well. There is also a free product called
Microsoft Mathematics from the Microsoft website. That is
easy to use as well.

Assignment: Make the graph of f ( x) 4 x 2 5 , and cut and paste it into a document,
then email it to me.
3x 4 y 7
Assignment: Make a graph of the system of inequalities
, and put it in the
2 x 5 y 8
same document.
