Study Guide for Ecuador

Cities of Ecuador: Capital? Largest city? Other important

cities/places?

Be familiar with the Joaqun de Olmedo poem about Guayaquil. What

is it about? Why is it important?

Why was Quito burned? What tourist attractions are found there?
Who were the first inhabitants? (Hint: It is not the Incas, as youd think.)

What is found in Guayaquil? Where is Guayaquil located? What is Las

Peas?

Know that Ecuador name MEANS "equator." It is right on the equator.

Notice the capitals & lower cases in this sentence: "El Ecuador se llama
<<El Ecuador>> porque El Ecuador est en el equador." (Ecuador is called
Ecuador bc Ecuador is on the equator.) Now, in order to prevent confusion
when talking, they call the equator something else..."the half (mark) of the
world." Know what that is in Spanish.

Know about holidays including the dates, the history involved & the
traditions of how they are celebrated: Amazon Day (The Day of the
Ecuadorian West) & New Year's Eve.

Know about the beautiful, amazing Galpagos Islands (group of 13

main & 6 minor islands5 of these are inhabited by people now but there
are no indigenous people). It would be on the top of my list of places to go.
There are turtles big enough to ride, really cool birds, all kinds of awesome
nature! If you ever have to do a project/report on animals for science, this
would be a great choice. Also, Check this out: Galapagos Islands Fishing
