Compound Machine Description

Our compound machine includes 3
simples machines. We had a pulley
system, wheel and axle, and a lever.
Requirements:

Power train system

3 simple machines
lift architecture book 1 foot off
flat surface
Using VEX materials

Simple Machines- Pulley

IMA= # of pulley strands / force load
IMA= 1/ 1.38 lb. = 0.72 (ratio:1:1.38)
AMA= Resistance force / Effort force
AMA= 1.38/0.74= 1.86
Efficiency= (AMA/IMA) 100
Efficiency= (1.86/0.72)100= 38.70%

Simple Machine- Wheel and Axle

IMA= Effort diameter / Resistance Diameter
IMA= 1.0cm/ 5.0cm= 0.20
AMA=Resistance force / Effort force
AMA= 1.38/0.43=3.209
Efficiency= (AMA/IMA)100
Efficiency= (3.209/0.20)100= 6.23%

Simple Machine-Lever
IMA=Effort arm length / Resistance arm length
IMA= 7.6/2.0=3.8
AMA=Resistance Force/Effort Force
AMA=0.24/0.43=0.55
Efficiency= (AMA/IMA)100
Efficiency=(0.55/3.8)100=14.68%

Compound Machine-Results
IMA(total)= IMA1xIMA2xIMA3
IMA(total)=0.72x0.20x3.80=0.55
MA= (MA1) (MA2) (MA3)
MA=1.86x3.209x0.55=3.282
Efficiency =14.39%
