Noun Test Level A

Study Sheet

A noun names a person, place, thing or idea.

Proper nouns refer to a specific idea or living or non-living thing and are capitalized.
These include days of the week, months of the year, books, movies, places, musical
compositions, magazines and more. Examples: Monday, January, Bible, Star Wars,
Hollywood, Jungle Bells and Vogue.

Common nouns are everything else and are not capitalized. Examples: building, dog,
breakfast, vacation and car.

A noun can be singular or plural.

A noun can be the subject of a sentence.

A noun can be described by an adjective. Examples of adjectives: blue, old, cold and
broken.

A. Instructions: Circle the nouns in these sentences. Hint: There are 31.
1. The cat and the dog played in the park.
2. Misha plays the piano and the drums.
3. David said to take the cake, cookies, and cups to the picnic.
4. Danielle went to see the Avatar at the theater.
5. Love and peace are better than hate and war.
6. My family plays as a team.
7. Tom had a banana in his lunch.
8. My class went for a visit in New York City.
9. One of my favorite movies is Frozen.
10. The musician read about the concert in the New York Times.
